PREPARE YOURSELF
To receive any waiver or support, you need to have a PLAN, PERSISTENCE, and PATIENCE.
Plan
Services and support do NOT happen the moment you sign up for them. When you apply for services it can take a while before you get them. So you need assistance with getting through the process as quickly as possible.
PERSISTENCE
We stay proactive when getting people the support they need. We know who to call, when to call, and what to say. So people who work with us can receive their services and support much more quickly than if they were trying to enroll themselves.
PATIENCE
If it’s us or someone else working with you, it still takes time for all the paperwork to be processed and the services to be administered. But we can often get participants through the process more quickly.
Programs Overview
Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) are also called Waiver-Funded Services or Waiver Programs. The term “waiver” is used because the federal government “waives” medical assistance rules for institutional care so the state of Pennsylvania can use the funds for HCBS.
HCBS provides for supports and services beyond those covered by the Medical Assistance program (also referred to as Medicaid) to help people stay in a home setting instead of moving to a Long-Term Care Facility. Each HCBS program has its own eligibility requirements and services.
