Real Stories, Real Impact
Cheyenne’s Family
Cheyenne's husband lost his job and he was applying for other jobs. Cheyenne was driving a school van and it had ended for the summer, she has been unable to return to work due to her high-risk pregnancy the complications surrounding the pregnancy. They were only getting unemployment, but it was not enough to cover their bills. Cheyanne's husband is now working, and they are trying to catch up on their bills, but it has been difficult. AUCP was able to help by purchasing gifts for the family.
AJ’s Family
AJ and his family recently moved from Florida to Pennsylvania to obtain better services to support his disabilities. The family of 5 lives very modestly in a small townhome. AJ’s mother is working while his father stays home to care for AJ as they prefer that the family provide his care. AJ also has a 16-year-old sister who is still living at home. The family does not have many funds and struggles to get by. AUCP was able to help this family have a wonderful holiday by purchasing gifts for the whole family.
Alice’s Story
Alice and her family became homeless after a hurricane in Texas destroyed their home. They moved to the Somerset area and were staying in a shelter, but recently found a home in Somerset. Alice also has added a newborn baby girl to her family. AUCP was able to help with the support of God’s Little Offerings to give the family new mattresses and bedding for their new home as well as provide gifts for the family.
Kimberly’s Family
Kimberly‘s husband was the primary support in their family, but in 2023 Kimberly's husband had medical issues that prevented him from working. Kimberly also was working but it was not enough to support all of their expenses so they got behind on their electric bill. They received some help from the Wounded Warrior Project, but as we all know bills continue so they got behind again until he was able to go back to work. AUCP was able to help by paying the past due amount of the electrical bills to get them up to date.
Logan’s Journey
Logan is a single mother of a 7-month-old who recently left an abusive relationship which resulted in physical injuries. Logan does not have any local family so she is caring for her baby alone. AUCP was able to help by providing resources and guidance to apply for help and supplied gifts and gift cards for Logan and her baby.
Shannon’s Family
Shannon and her family became homeless in October after an eviction from their landlord. Shannon's children had some medical issues due to having high lead levels and officials were called to inspect the building so this ended up in an eviction. Our staff was able to assist with housing applications and other resources for Shannon and her family. AUCP was able to help with gifts for the family.
Robert’s Need
Robert lives with Cerebral Palsy. He loves music and videos; he has an extensive collection. Due to his posture issues, he cannot safely sit in a regular shower chair. He needs a reclining shower chair which is several hundred dollars and not covered by insurance. He would love to be able to use his new shower. AUCP was able to purchase Robert his new shower chair so that he can enjoy his new bathroom.
Louise’s Family
Louise is a new participant in AUCP. They are very family-orientated and they have been through many traumatic events as a family. Ms. Bertone lost her daughter to a drug overdose and her husband committed suicide, both within a few months apart. Ms. Bertone took in her 5-year-old grandson and her two sons live with her as well. AUCP was able to make the season a little brighter with some gifts for the family.
John & Kathy
John and Kathy are usually very self-supporting, but recently John suffered a stroke and is in the hospital unable to work, in addition, they recently took in 3 grandchildren due to an abusive situation. John is on the road to recovery but is unsure of when or if he will be able to return to work AUCP was able to help by paying several utility bills.
Joseema’s Recovery
Joseema was pregnant and contracted COVID-19. She fell in the tub and was transported to the hospital where they had to perform an emergency C-section. Joseema was intubated for three weeks and the baby was placed with a friend till she could recover. Joseema has no income at this time due to being in the hospital. She missed signing up for help due to being in the hospital. AUCP was able to help with some bills.
A Mother’s Devotion
This mother has been caring for three adult children who are wheelchair-bound for the last 4 years She has been doing this on her own with the assistance of an overhead lift system. In the last year, the batteries for the lift have died and she is unable to afford to replace them. AUCP was able to assist by purchasing two new batteries as well as gifts for the family.
Sandy’s Health & Home
Sandy is a cancer survivor who has suffered two strokes and experienced pneumonia 14 times. She currently receives disability as her only source of income, which only covers her monthly bills and leaves her with enough money for food. Sandy owns her home, a trailer with an addition, but lacks the financial resources or credit to replace her hot water tank. She needs hot water for daily use in her jet tub for health reasons. A family friend has volunteered to install and deliver the hot water tank at no cost. AUCP was able to purchase the hot water heater for Sandy.
